Steve Lucas Jazz Trio

Juno Award-winning bassist Steve Lucas brings a lifetime of musical experience and a deep passion for jazz to the stage with the Steve Lucas Jazz Trio. The trio provides Steve with the opportunity to focus on his upright bass playing, exploring a rich jazz repertoire that highlights his versatility, musicianship, and lifelong connection to the music. Throughout his career, Steve has performed with renowned artists including Bruce Cockburn, Levon Helm, Moe Koffman, Big Sugar, Seals & Crofts and many others. His performances have taken him to major events such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, Toronto Jazz Festival, and TD Niagara Jazz Festival, while his work has been recognized in publications including The New York Times, Bass Frontiers, and Canadian Musician.

Featuring Ted Warren on drums and Todd Pentney on keyboards, the Steve Lucas Jazz Trio explores a wide-ranging repertoire that moves from bebop classics and jazz standards to inventive jazz interpretations of popular songs and acoustic arrangements of compositions from Steve’s three Electronic Jazz albums. Blending tradition with innovation, the trio delivers a dynamic and engaging approach to jazz, showcasing Steve’s expressive upright bass playing and the group’s shared love of improvisation and musical exploration.

 

Ted Warren - Drums

Ted  is a respected figure in Canada’s jazz scene, recognized as Jazz Report’s Drummer of the Year and known for his work as a performer, clinician, and adjudicator. He has led his own quartet, Ted’s Warren Commission, which has released three CDs, and was a longtime member of the acclaimed Boss Brass, appearing on six of their recordings. Ted has performed and recorded with many celebrated artists, including Slide Hampton, Maynard Ferguson, Jeff Healey, Kenny Wheeler, and Doc Severinsen, bringing his exceptional musicianship and versatility to every performance.

 

Todd Pentney – Piano/Keyboards

Todd, also known as HiFiLo, is a Juno Award-winning producer, pianist, and keyboardist based in Toronto, Canada. A versatile and creative force in the jazz community, Todd has performed on Grammy-winning recordings, including Justin Gray’s Immersed, and has produced acclaimed albums for the Allison Au Quartet, including the Juno Award-winning Forest Grove. He was also part of Sundar Viswanathan’s Avataar, which won the 2022 Juno Award for Best Jazz Album (Group), and has received further Juno recognition for his work as a performer and producer. Todd’s innovative approach to keyboards and production continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jazz.

Todd recently won the international Rhodes Custom Keys Challenge. The grand prize was a new custom built Rhodes MK8.
